Martin has a real passion for working with great causes.
Social responsibility is at the heart of his businesses, and Martin likes to donate a minimum of 10% of profit to charity.
“I’ve made it our mission to do as much good as possible – encouraging all employees to raise money for charity, and giving them time to get involved with the causes they believe in.”
Below are some of the charities Martin currently supports.
Speed of Sight
Speed of Sight charity provides life-changing driving experiences on racetracks and off-road venues for people of all ages and disabilities who cannot or are unlikely to hold a driving licence. Martin Port is a corporate partner for the charity and enjoys helping more people benefit from its experiences.
St.Gemma’s Hospice
St Gemma’s Hospice is a local, independent charity and has been providing expert care to the people of Leeds for over 40 years.
Brake
Road safety charity Brake does amazing work to stop the tragedy of road deaths and injuries. Martin is a loyal supporter of the charity, which has limited resources but strives hard to make the UK a safer place.
Young Lives vs Cancer
The Young Lives vs Cancer charity helps families find the strength to cope with cancer. The charity does amazing work and Martin is proud to support them with much-needed funding.
Yorkshire Children’s Centre
Yorkshire Children’s Centre (YCC) is a regional charity that supports vulnerable and disadvantaged young people. Martin is proud to support the vital work the children’s centre does for the local community.
Yorkshire Cancer Research
Around 30,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year in Yorkshire. The Yorkshire Cancer Research charity funds research and trials to improve treatment, contributing around £10m a year to benefit the community of Yorkshire.
World Jewish relief – Ukraine crisis appeal
The World Jewish Relief’s Ukraine crisis appeal supports Ukraine nationals caught up in the Russian invasion. With eight Ukrainian colleagues, BigChange is doing all it can to support the people of Ukraine.
Transaid
Transaid works with partners and governments to solve transport challenges in sub-Saharan Africa. Martin is an ambassador for the charity.
The Back-up Trust
Back Up is a UK charity dedicated to supporting people affected by spinal cord injury. Back Up provides everything from mentoring and guidance to support on finding wheelchair and sourcing carers.
Rob Burrow Centre for MND
The Leeds Hospitals Charity aims to raise £5m to build a specialist motor neurone disease care centre in Leeds to give people with MND the best quality of life. The Rob Burrow Centre would see all MND services housed under one roof for the first time.
Mind
The mental health of Martin, his family, friends and colleagues is at the top of his list of priorities. Martin is therefore pleased to support the important work of Mind, the dedicated mental health charity.
Jewish Deaf Association
Suffering from significant hearing loss himself, Martin knows the challenges that present to those hard of hearing. The Jewish Deaf Association aims to create a world where there are no barriers to communication and understanding between deaf and hearing people.
